Talk:Zero Sum vs. Non-Zero Sum Interactions
From Libertarian Wiki
RadicalCentrist I'm not sure I agree that a cashier is always a zero-sum position. I have often chosen to do business in a particular place because the people were friendly, and I enjoied the experience more. And in the area of technology, I nearly always choose my sources, at least partially, based on whether there is someone there who can speak intellegently to me about their products. I hate asking a question, and then spending 15 minutes explaining what the question means. Generally I don't get a useful answer in such cases.
Both of these arguments beg questions: the first, are we talking about only economic sums, or does the intangable benifits of having someone brighten my day count. I would suggest that we have to consider such things, or we would have to consider the purchase of a massage, a trip to a movie, or a nice dinner (when cheaper food could be had) to be a win-lose proposition.
The second is more sales then cashiering, but a cashier who knows the products and cares could have the same effect.
- I was speaking of a cashier as a cashier--simply taking your money. The same person may fill the role of cashier alongside other roles (sales, greeter, etc.), but that doesn't change the nature of the role of cashier. I have run into a number of cashiers who contribute nothing to my experience (some actually make the process a bit awkward by demonstrating how bored they are with the job), and automated cashier machines are also becoming more common. (( By the way -- should we make the stuff below here a separate page? It's not entirely on-topic ))

We got hit with wiki spam on this article. Is there a way to prevent this from happening? It could be very time consuming if the spammers decided to overwrite every single article. The Modern American 10:40 EST 21 Jan 2005
So far it has just been random, and occasional. Once I banned an IP addresses of someone who was persistent. We could ban annonymous edits, but then they could just register a username. Unless it gets a lot worse, we should just repair the damage as it happens. Paul Studier 14:04, 21 Jan 2005 (PST)
The next version of MediaWiki has a provision to keep Google, and any other well behaved search engine, from indexing external links. This will remove the incentive for spammers to do this. Paul Studier 22:55, 24 Jan 2005 (PST)
