What do you all think about making the text descriptions of these various blog links (and perhaps for all short link descriptions in general) italic? This would set the descriptions off from the actual link/title text and might make it easier to read. Thoughts?

- I think this would be a ton of work. Maybe it's worthwhile. Maybe it would be good to sort by topic/focus. Maybe we should just let the list be and "hope" that someone will develop software that is better for organizing blogs. I suspect something like this is in development... maybe Civic Spaces Labs. Otherwise, I don't really like the "more is better" approach to blogging. Some sort of rating system could be nice, but I don't think the wiki is very good for that. Maybe we could use del.icio.us ... link to http://del.icio.us/tag/libertarian+blog, and allow the del.icio.us system to rank them (by most recent bookmark, i believe). Delicious also has a "popular" function [1], which currently has nothing for "libertarian+blog". Maybe someone will develop a page that simply ranks the bookmarked items. Well, even though he is not the hottie that he claimed to be, it is still a blog. Paul Studier 12:54, 15 Feb 2005 (PST)
- Since this is a Libertarian Wiki, shouldn't we encourage people not to use fraud (i.e. deliberate misrepresentation) to move forward in life? It's my opinion that including him / her / whatever shows approval of the deception. I'm not going to be super-anal about this, but keep in mind that we're implicitly endorsing the fraud that was "Libertarian Girl" by linking to that site.

- Good point. I have deleted the link to Libertarian Girl. Paul Studier 13:52, 22 Feb 2005 (PST)
[edit] do we have any standards?
The most recent contribution to this page was a question: "how is this a libertarian blog?" I checked the blog he was referring to, and it seemed that the author may have a slight libertarian bent, but the blog focuses on celebrety news and very rarely has an article with any libertarian interest. There isn't even any commentary--just links to other articles.
I would ditch it, but it brings up the question of how we want to manage this list. Do we really want to evaluate every blog on whether or not it is "libertarian"? I suspect that a wiki unfortunately isn't a good platform for this list. It may be better to just refer to blogs in context. For example, the page about Cato links to the Cato blog, while non-institutional blog should be listed under the state/locality article that includes the author, or should be listed under a topic that the author has made a contribution to (for example, the blog of a major drug-policy activist) Adam 06:05, 25 May 2005 (PDT)
- FWIW I deleted the comment, intending to move it here, not knowing you'd already commented. IMO introducing "standards" just leads to endless debate over who's Libertarian enough to make the list. There are already a million mailing lists devoted to intramural Libertarian bickering; I'd prefer to avoid it as much as possible. IMO the only criterion should be, "Is it likely for others to find this link useful?" If that means we need a non-Libertarian category because others might find Daily Kos or Red State useful, well, so be it. I just think vetting sites for being "Libertarian enough" is a Pandora's Box best left unopened. JMO of course. (Admittedly the text says, "a list of libertarian weblogs" so right now the implication is that we do find these libertarian. I'd change that to weblogs of interest to the libertarian community, but again that's JMO.) - EqualOpportunityCynic 06:18, 25 May 2005 (PDT)
- The Puffington Host does not cover anything remotely political and has no original content, so I don't see how it could possibly be of interest to the libertarian community. Anyway, my point is that a wiki is not suitible for a list like this since there is no way to maintain standards. I've seen this on Wikipedia--lists become gigantic and unfocused, and end up being useless. Adam 08:33, 25 May 2005 (PDT)
- Point well-taken about Wikipedias and lists. The problem is, a wiki may not be the best medium for a list of links in isolation, but those links would be of great interest to users of this particular wiki. So should we pick one or two good directories of Lib blogs and post those links in a stub article for Weblogs? What have you seen succeed elsewhere? -- EqualOpportunityCynic 09:21, 25 May 2005 (PDT)
I dislike the comment (dead?) on the Baptists and Bootleggers blog, from my short review the blog would appear to be currently moribund but contains interesting content nontheless. Perhaps (moribund?), save I don't like that tag either. Perhaps I will search around and find some other article that would make a good place to reference to it (and trans-articulate the reference). [edit] Activism / election blogs?
Apologies if this isn't the greatest place to ask about this, but it could potentially be related to this page. Does anyone know of a Libertarian activism blog, or a "news" blog that tracks actual Libertarian political candidates? I'm thinking of something like http://mydd.com , but obviously with a different slant. Another example is the network of regional sites linked at http://www.soapblox.net . If such is linked on this page, I haven't found it after clicking through several of the links. TIA, EqualOpportunityCynic 12:23, 5 September 2006 (PDT)
- This isn't really a blog, but http://lp.org/ has a candidate tracker. Paul Studier 19:23, 9 September 2006 (PDT)
[edit] contribute to "best of the web-blog directory"
It may be helpful for someone to add libertarian blogs to the "best of the web blog directory". Frankly, I'm not too optimistic about the ability of a manually curated directory to keep up with the evolution of the web...but if that's your thing, give it a shot. Adam 19:52, 18 October 2006 (PDT)
