Talk:Nolan Chart
From Libertarian Wiki
I just added the other image and then updated both (the first for size and the second to eliminate the Microsoft spell-check red underline -- it was easier to draw this in powerpoint than in gimp). Drop a note on my talk page if you want the ppt file or if it is appropriate to upload it; without the file it is hard for people to edit the illustration in the spirit of a wiki.
I think it would be really interesting to do a few things: plot the distributions of people on a particular, scaled pair of axes (e.g. the Advocates quiz questions would make a fine standard). I would like to see the plots both by party affiliation and by self-identification. One would expect libertarians to fall near the top, but many democrats and republicans may fall into the equal-area, top box as well. The difference between self-identification and party affiliation is that pragmatic individuals might be registered in order to influence primaries in a first-past the post system even though they think of themselves as libertarians. I have been thinking about how I would poll people and my preliminary conclusions are that it might be challenging to get a sufficient sample size working independently since I don't have the statistical tools used by polling groups to correct for sample size and variation from total population distribution.

GNU Free Documentation License
Thank you for your contributions, but we can't publish stuff under GNU. This wiki is, for both better and worse, public domain. Perhaps someone can redraw this. One can not copyright just the idea. Paul Studier 19:46, 21 November 2007 (PST)
- I had not noticed the "DO NOT SUBMIT WORK UNDER GNU Free Documentation License!" At some point (perhaps tomorrow), I will have to educate myself on the nuances of "public domain" and GNU FDL, etc. In any case, I drew that image and you are welcome to use it. I have not copied any of the text from other sources either. I agree that the idea cannot be copyright and the representation of the idea is mine and I am willing to share it. --Ransage 00:30, 22 November 2007 (PST)
Should we combine this with Nolan Survey?
I saw the "Nolan chart" link on Jaywin's page and noticed it was empty. I didn't realize there was a related page at Nolan Survey. It may be useful to combine the two pages and then link one to the other. What do you think? --Ransage 14:54, 22 November 2007 (PST)
Nolan Chart emphasizes the graph, and Nolan Survey emphasizes the questions, so my inclination would be to keep both articles. Just IMHO. Paul Studier 20:40, 23 November 2007 (PST)
