Self-interest

Self-interest, originally had a more strictly financial meaning. Closer in English to its current meaning was the word commodity. Only later did it take on the more general senses given below:

• Selfishness
• Ethical egoism
• Psychological egoism
• Individualism
• Hedonism
• Epicureanism
• Enlightened self-interest
• Indirect self-interest
