Today, July 10, a dozen LP activists made themselves known at Kerry/Edwards first rally in the new battleground state of North Carolina, on the campus of North Carolina State University in Raleigh. The libertarian message and Badnarik's name were seen by practically every one of the thousands of people who gathered to see the Democratic candidates speak.

It all started with a 5am Kinko's run. The flyers we used included http://www.big-head-ed.com/bad04/patriotact.pdf, http://www.kiva.net/~kvc/mb/elcodesnader.jpg, and http://www.big-head-ed.com/bad04/moore_war.pdf

And a 7am chalking marathon:

And a 12 o'clock meetup/staging meeting. Susan Hogarth (NC4Badnarik coordinator) is sporting one of the stylish Badnarik t-shirts available from http://www.ncliberty.net/ .

The GOP protesters were a bit disorganized:

But when they left early, the LP took over prime real estate. Manning our sign, here: Eli Harman, chair of NCSU campus libertarians; Stephen Hilton, Wake County, NC LP chair; and Barabara Howe, LPNC chair.

And we watched the Kerry/Edwards campaign buses roll by. That's Tom and Barbara Howe (candidates for NC House 32 and governor, respectively) holding up our sign:

What libertarian protest would be complete without some sort of encounter with the law? That's Susan Hogarth as Lady Liberty after being ejected from the Kerry/Edwards rally by *five* (count 'em, five) officers:

Her ejection got a mention in an AP article about the rally: http://www.wilmingtonstar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20040710/APP/407100773&cachetime=5

And our other Lady Liberty, Alison Jaynes (LP Candidate for NC house district 59):

And, yes, Tom Bailey (US Senate candidate) remains the most photogenic member of the North Carolina LP. His North Carolina flag, by the way, was one of the "outside signs" disallowed from entering the rally (even off the flagpole).
