[edit] Nidus Introduction
There are lots of states looking at or using Nidus...
- Michigan - Greg Dirasian (creator of Nidus)
- Florida - Steven Kuck
- California - Kevin Takenaga/Terry Floyd
- New York - Bonnie Scott
- Kansas - Roger Pettijohn
- Missouri - Glenn Nielsen
- Maryland - Roy Meyers
Nidus is a web-based membership database application written in PHP utilizing the MySQL database. Greg Dirasian's offer to state Libertarian parties includes all the necessary source code.
He is hoping to turn this tool into a project shared among LP affiliates. Steven Kuck of Florida is already working with him on this (Florida was using the previous incarnation of Nidus) and he has set up a CVS repository on the LPF server.
Along with maintaining a database, you can set up a mailbox to receive updates from LPHQ and a (cron) job to apply that update to your database.
Updates made in Nidus will be automatically sent back to national for incorporation into the Raiser's Edge database. We are waiting for them to figure out the automated imports.
Nidus allows you to view new members, new inquiries, or lapsed members with just a click. It also allows you to record and track donations and comments. Create and track county parties, give [county-level] access to county chairs. Keep an audit history of when a record has been changed and all the good things you would expect a membership database to do. Plus, it can be shared among LP affiliates....you can add to it and share those improvements with other LP affiliates.
[edit] Status
From the website, as of 2007September, No updates to Nidus are forthcoming because the format of the data from the National LP is not stable.
Furthermore, at this time, the National LP does not support Nidus.
