[edit] Political Party Recognition
In order to be recognized as a Political Party in New Jersey (and receive a separate column on the ballot) candidates for an organization must receive at least 10% of the total vote in a general election for State Assembly. (Title 19:5-1) [1]

All independent candidates are listed in one column on the ballot.
Ballot petitions must be filed with either the New Jersey Division of Elections (for Federal and State Offices), the County Clerk (for County offices), or the County or Municipal Clerk (for all other Offices) no later than 4:00 PM the date of the Primay Election (the first Tuesday after the first Monday in June).
Requirements for independent candidates are listed here: [3].
Ballot petitioners for candidates for state, county, or local office must reside within the district of the office for which they are petitioning.
