For major parties, ballot access is a simple matter of a filing fee or a few signatures. For independent and "minor party" candidates it is a matter of collecting signatures. The number of certified petitions needed are:

Governor, US Senate, President: 3000, with 1500 from each congressional district US House: 1500 Executive Council, State Senate: 750 County Office, State Rep: 150

Signatures must be turned in to the town clerks or local supervisor of the checklist by early August for certification. Make sure you get a receipt. They are due back to you by September 1st. Once you have them all, bring them to the Secretary of State for a final count and you're on the ballot.
