Libertarian Party of Michigan

Michigan's political leanings tend to be generally dominated by social conservative views. A gay marriage ban, stricter gambling laws, and abolishing affimative action have all recently been put before the state voters in the form of ballot proposals; all have passed with overwhelming support.

In regards to economic freedoms, the state's populace tends to strongly support unions, protectionism, and higher minimum wage caps. Michigan is particularly notable for it's population's view towards taxes. The voters will strongly resist any attempts to raise income or property taxes, while also consistently voting down such things as local millages. The voting populace tends to prefer a form of user fees in regards to taxes. Cigarettes, alcohol, sales taxes, a state lottery, and the 3 casinos in downtown Detroit are all things the state has created or raised taxes on in order to generate revenue.
