[edit] Lowell Area Liberty Association
The Lowell Area Liberty Association, (LALA) is an almost monthly gathering of libertarians and liberty minded people, primarily in the Greater Lowell, Massachusetts area, although all are welcome. The group was organized, and is currently run by Arthur Torrey and Mary-Anne Wolf.
This is a social evening event. We gather for dinner and conversation at a local restaraunt. Currently we don't have formal speakers, but if the group becomes large enough we might do so in the future.
Originally the group started as a local Meetup chapter. When Meetup started charging for their services, the members of the group decided that being on the Meetup Website wasn't worth what was being charged and we became the Lowell Area Liberty Association, or LALA.
Normally we meet on the 4th Tuesday evening of each month, however this is subject to change for several reasons. Sometimes the date conflicts with a holiday (particularly Thanksgiving and Christmas), so we need to change it. Another problem is that two of the organizers are also Billerica, MA Town Meeting Representatives, and if the Spring or Fall Town Meeting session runs long, it can conflict.
Because we meet in the regular dining area of a restaraunt, we need to know how many are coming so that we can reserve a table the appropriate size. Thus RSVP's are required but I can add people up to as little as an hour before the meeting time.
Currently we meet at the Outback Steakhouse on 28 Reiss Ave. in Lowell. This is very conveniently located near the intersection of Routes 3, 495, 110 and the Lowell Connector. The big landmarks are the Crosspoint building and the Lowell Cinema.
For further information, and to get on the e-mail list for the meeting announcements (very low traffic, 1-2 messages / month) contact Arthur by e-mail at either atorrey'at'lpma'dot'org or arthur_torrey'at'comcast'dot'net, or by phone at 978-663-0241.
