Libertarian Wiki talk:Community Portal

A request: Fill in information about libertarianism in your community (city, state, nation, etc.). What are the major institutions/organizations? Which traditions and individuals have been influential in the movement? How much sucess have you had? Where? What strategies are being persued? I've done a little bit with United States of America, and created a list of nations/regions/cultures on the culture page. I think that this resource should be pretty prominant. What do we call it, "locality"? That list I made should be converted into a category. Adam 16:17, 22 May 2005 (PDT)

Maybe Category:Regional? Be careful how much you copy from Wikipedia. They are GNU licensed, we are public domain, so we can't just copy verbatim. This page is probably covered under fair use. Paul Studier 16:45, 22 May 2005 (PDT)

Good point, Paul. I forget if Adam made a point about Copyright on my talk page or if I just interpreted your comment to be applying to the Community Portal. At any rate, I asked if the CP layout was copyrighted and got no response at Wikipedia, so I'm going to leave that as is. - EqualOpportunityCynic 13:30, 24 May 2005 (PDT)

[edit] Promoting LibertarianWiki

This goes hand in hand with Adam's suggestion above: I'd like to get word of this wiki out to as many Libertarians as possible. I've thrown together a couple of ideas at User:EqualOpportunityCynic/Site Promotion Plan, and I'd love to have others throw in their .02 too. Moreover, once we reach a consensus that we can adopt as a community effort, we can announce it on the Community Portal (and move it out of my personal namespace). Forgive me if I'm being too aggressive and moving in on Paul's territory by promoting the site, perhaps taking it in a certain direction; that's not my intent. I'm just very excited about the possibilities for info-sharing that a wiki opens up! -- EqualOpportunityCynic 13:30, 24 May 2005 (PDT)

[edit] Collaboration

What exactly is a collaboration? Hogeye 12:10, 6 February 2006 (PST)

Just a way of highlighting an article so several people will work on it. See [1]. Paul Studier 23:25, 6 February 2006 (PST)

[edit] LibertarianWiki symbol

What is that symbol supposed to be? Is that peace sign? If so, I think it's inappropriate. For a libertarian, there is nothing intrinsically good about peace. It's liberty that they value and will wage war against their oppressors to obtain it. Peace in itself is worthless if it's at the cost of being under a tyrannical system. The Statue of Liberty or the Ama-gi symbol would be more appropriate. RJII 23:25, 26 June 2006 (PDT)

It's supposed to be the Libertarian emoticon. --DavidCary 12:14, 16 July 2007 (PDT)

Still, RJII's misinterpretation could be taken as prima facie evidence that the icon is open to misinterpretation. Being "correct" in symbolism isn't as important as having something that's readily identifiable. If people are taking the site's logo to be an inverted peace sign, I'm not sure it's having the desired effect. But I don't have anything better to propose so I'll shut up now. :) - EqualOpportunityCynic 11:48, 18 July 2007 (PDT)

Yes. I don't have anything better to propose, either. But what I can do is make a place to discuss ideas for the next logo, on Libertarian Wiki talk:About. (Rather than whining about it in a dozen different places). (If there is a better place, please move logo-related stuff to that better place). --DavidCary 20:47, 20 July 2007 (PDT)
