Libertarian Wiki talk:About

I have something that I would like to add to this page, but it's protected:

Regarding Wikipedia: We may want to discuss an topic that is already covered in Wikipedia. Rather than re-writing all of that information, it is probably best to link to the wikipedia article ([[wikipedia:ArticleName|ArticleName]] rather than reproduce all of that information here. The Libertarian Wiki articles can just cover the topic from the libertarian perspective and let Wikipedia cover it from a general perspective. We cannot simply copy information from Wikipedia because that information is licensed under the GNU GPL, which means that it cannot be put into the public domain (the Libertarian Wiki license).

Regarding page protection: Protected pages are a hassle, and I would only protect a page if there has been a problem with that page, or if the information is very brief. For Wikipedia, policy is constantly evolving and subject to community input, so I would not protect policy as a matter of course, as seems to have been done with the policies stated on the "About" page. Perhaps a very brief mission statement should be protected, but I wouldn't protect much more without good reason.

I have unprotected the page and moved your comment to it. Paul Studier 00:23, 18 Jan 2005 (PST)

Quote from the About page: "For example, LPOC,CA is the regional article for The Libertarian Party of Orange County, California, and LPOC,CA Calendar is it's calendar."

Please change "it's" to "its". "It's" means "it is" or "it has," whereas "its" is an adjective used to describe possession. The calendar belongs to the LPOC, thus "its" is the correct choice.

Done, thank you. Sorry about the delay. WikiSysop 18:21, 16 Jan 2005 (PST)

[edit] New Logo

I haven't been around much recently, except to revert the "fascist's" vandalism. What's the new logo supposed to represent? Adam 13:29, 18 March 2006 (PST)

It is the Libertarian Emoticon, "The Torch of Liberty, Enlightening the World". There are two reasons I changed it. First, the old logo was too tall and didn't work with the newer versions of software. Second, I though we needed a logo that was not explicitly a Libertarian Party logo. Paul Studier 14:50, 18 March 2006 (PST)

The current logo:

is too often mis-interpreted. Does anyone have any suggestions for a better logo? Perhaps the following symbols of liberty will inspire someone to sketch something up. --DavidCary 21:09, 20 July 2007 (PDT)

[edit] symbols of liberty

Is there a better page for mentioning symbols of liberty? --DavidCary 12:15, 16 July 2007 (PDT)

I still like the torch logo. A friend of mine used to use chalk and draw his campaign signs on walls, and he used this logo because it was easy to draw. We need something simple like the Christian Cross, the Jewish Star of David, the Muslim new moon with the star, the peace symbol, the Nazi swastika, etc. All easy to draw, and all requiring some education to know the meaning. [edit] Adding Pages about Objectivism, Neo-Tech and Solving

Hi!

Being a Neo-Tech person, I'd like to know if I can add pages pertaining to Objectivism, Neo-Tech, which is a more integrated spin-off of Objectivism, and Solving which is a meta-movement I started based on both Neo-Tech and some ideas from the Open Source world with some ideas of its own.

I don't see any of them as incompatible with Libertarianism. Pages that are specific to each one should probably be kept under the appropriate namespace ("Objectivism/", "Neo-Tech/", "Solving/", etc.). And naturally, everything I or anyone else will put here will be public domain.

Regards,

--Shlomif 11:33, 29 July 2006 (PDT)

Objectivism has a long history with libertarianism, so I would welcome stuff about that. I am less than enthusiastic about Neo-Tech and Solving because they really don't have much to do with libertarianism. Most religions are compatible, but it wouldn't really help activism to have a bunch of articles about the world religions. Paul Studier 18:47, 30 July 2006 (PDT)
