We just pledged allegiance to a republic that is to provide liberty and justice for all.

Today I am grateful for this form of government and for its limited mission. This mission recognizes that beyond liberty and justice, it is up to individuals like those of us in this room right now, to make our nation great.

It is we, Rotarians, Christians, Atheists, Buddhists, Jews and agnostics, we individuals that have within us the spirit of good-will that motivates us to be of service to others. It is we that choose to give a helping hand, a smile, financial alms, a word of encouragement or a friendship.

Today I am grateful that that there are so many good individuals in our town, state, country and our entire world.

As we go about our lives, I know that we will continue in this spirit, not out of a sense of duty to deity or state, but because we truly enjoy being of service to our fellow humans. This is why we are Rotarians.
