Indiana has a justly-earned reputation of being a state will a right of center political compass. Indiana as of the 2006 elections has a congressional delegation made up of five Democrats and four Republicans with the senate seats split. The state legislature is split with the democrats winning the House back in 2006 (51-49), while the republicans retained their 33-17 grip on the Senate. Republicans also had the governor's office since Mitch Daniels won the seat in 2004. While all of these positions are essentially split Indiana has voted Republican for President in all but one election since 1940.

The Libertarian Party of Indiana is one of three parties with ballot access along with the Democrats and Republicans, other parties are required to turn in 32,742 petition signatures in order to obtain a slot on the ballot. The Chairman of the Libertarian Party of Indiana is Mike Sylvester and the new State LP Executive Director, is Dr. Susan Street-Beavers.
