Free State Project

From Libertarian Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

The Free State Project is a plan to concentrate liberty loving people into one state. First they came up with a list of 10 candidate states. When 5000 people had pledged to move to the chosen state, a vote was taken and New Hampshire was selected. It is hoped to gain pledges from 20,000 people to move to New Hampshire. It is hoped that by concentration on one state, that liberty will be promoted more effectively.

The slogan of the Free State Project is "Liberty in Our Lifetime", and the symbol of the project is the porcupine, which symbolizes the desire to be left alone from government interference.

Recently, a sense of urgency has come to the Free State Project, and Ian Bernard, FSP member and host of talk show Free Talk Live, has created the First 1000 [1] pledge. The First 1000 pledge hopes to bring 1,000 members to the Free State by the end of 2008.

The Free State Project sponsors an annual summer festival, affectionately known as "Porcfest". It is primarily a social event, with bonfires, bbq, and all of the usual campground activity. An agenda for the first weekend is posted on the website.

Some parties believe that the choice of New Hampshire was a poor one, and are advocating the second choice of the Free State Project, Wyoming, under the auspices of Free State Wyoming.
