Democracy

There is also an article about Democracy at Wikipedia.

Our chances of achieving chance through democratic processes are pretty dismal. The reason is that the government has rigged the system. We can try to educate people to believe in libertarianism, but every year, the government indoctrinates many more people into statism through the taxpayer-funded compulsory education system than we can convince of the merits of our ideas.

Further, there is the problem of rational ignorance. The law forces people to educate their kids in one way or another, and parents have a financial incentive to send their kids to be indoctrinated by the public education system, because it's cheaper than home-schooling or paying for private school. But the individual voter has no incentive to invest time and effort in educating himself as to the merits of libertarian ideas and to vote accordingly. The exception is when a person happens to be the type who enjoys delving deeply into politics, but those people are a small minority.

The government also pays people such as the Drug Czar to propagandize for the government's policies at taxpayer expense. Libertarian organizations, on the other hand, have to rely on voluntary donations. People are getting taxed so much that they have less money available to make such donations.

Also, the government that robs Peter to pay Paul can usually count on the support of Paul. Even if you convince people that it would be fairer, more ethical and better for society to not infringe the rights of others, some people care more about their own self-interest than about what is fair or ethical or good for society. The government has created a lot of interest groups that depend on it for, e.g., farm subsidies, food stamps, employment, etc.

The upshot of this is that we are going to have to secede from those who we cannot convince to stop infringing our rights. The democratic process largely exists to create an illusion that there is some prospect of changing things without resorting to secession. The political system diverts our efforts into channels that cannot result in the implementation of our ideas, when we could be figuring out how to go about seceding successfully.
