[edit] Libertarian-compatible charities (USA)
These are charities that do not receive large amounts of government funding but still achieve their desired cause.
- The Institute for Justice (wikipedia) website: The nation's only libertarian public interest law firm. However, the institute advocates vouchers for schools and opposes the separation of school and state.
- Alliance for the Separation of School and State (wikipedia)[1]: Challenges conventional idea that schooling should be a government function. Opposes vouchers because it creates a constituency for more government involvement in education and undermines the independence of private schools.
- Advocates for Self Government (wikipedia)[2]: Produces outreach materials and publications teaching libertarians to become effective and successful communicatorsof libertarian ideas; and to change the dominant political "map" from the old, inaccurate "left-right" model -- which excludes libertarians -- to a more accurate and inclusive map such as that found on the World's Smallest Political Quiz.
- Fully Informed Jury Association (wikipedia)[3]: Educates the public, provides commentary on current jury-related cases, and assists defendants with jury authority strategies—including the right to veto bad laws and the misapplication of laws—by refusing to convict the defendant.
- Cato Institute (wikipedia)[4]: Largest libertarian think tank in the United States.
- http://www.probono.net/: A network of pro-bono defense lawyers (reputation and structure unclear)
- AmeriCares (no wikipedia) website: provides medical supplies for immediate emergencies, as well as for longer-term humanitarian programs. See here for a statement on their donations sources- only 0.3% was from Big Brother during 2003.
- The Wikimedia Foundation (wikipedia) (website)
